City staff delivered a quarterly economic development briefing on June 22, highlighting recent business openings, retail recruitment activity and film permitting successes.
Assistant City Manager Angel Sierra listed recent openings and near‑term grand openings including Pickle & Play (indoor recreation), a relocated Nectar of the Dogs venue, the Bunker Clubhouse entertainment venue and an expanded Premier America location. Staff noted Whole Foods remains on a multi‑quarter interior‑improvement schedule and Raising Cane’s and other tenants continue through permitting.
Sierra and colleague Luis Carabay told council the city has been engaged in retail outreach, attended the ICSC commercial real‑estate trade show, and is working with the Simi Valley Town Center owners on revitalization. "Based on our reputation," Sierra said, "PennyMac is going to be relocating from its Moorpark facility to Simi Valley," a move staff described as keeping more than 1,000 jobs in the county. Council members asked whether a site could be named; staff said the location remained confidential pending negotiations.
Staff also reported 73 production days in the first half of 2026 with an estimated economic impact of about $1.3 million and noted continued sales‑tax growth in the fourth quarter of 2025. Economic staff said they will continue concierge‑level assistance to businesses moving through permitting and anticipated additional retail announcements in coming months.
