Lewis‑Palmer D38 approves one armed security position for elementary coverage

The Lewis‑Palmer Consolidated School District No. 38 board voted June 22 to add one armed security position to increase presence at Prairie Winds Elementary School and across the district.

Superintendent Wetstein said a safety assessment drafted in October 2024 and follow-up community forums informed the recommendation. "This is a first step forward, probably not a last step forward," the superintendent said, describing the new position as an interim measure while the district addresses architectural and longer-term security investments.

Board members emphasized prevention, remediation and lessons learned as goals for district safety work. One member said the addition was "proactive instead of reactive." The motion passed by roll-call vote.
