Charlton health staff report camp inspections, tobacco checks, pool closure and clean-and-lean agreement

At the June 23 meeting the Town of Charlton Health Department reported inspections of youth camps, tobacco-control checks with the state, ongoing housing complaint work, and a signed clean-and-lean agreement to clear a property whose owner, Aubrey White, requested the town's help.

"We've been quite busy with camp inspections," the health staff member said, noting visits to Nature's Classroom, camp Joslin and other sites. Staff said they accompanied a state tobacco-control inspection and found only minor issues that were addressed.

Staff said the pool at Nature's Classroom remains closed until the pool operator demonstrates competent testing and the water meets safety criteria. The board also discussed a small wind turbine at Bay Path that staff said is now functioning after years of inactivity; staff and board recalled past rules limiting turbine size relative to nearby dwellings.

On property cleanup, staff said they signed a clean-and-lean agreement with resident Aubrey White to remove accumulated equipment and junk; the town will catalog items, evaluate them for sale at fair market value, and place a lien on the property as allowed under the agreement.

The board also heard that the Bay Path curbside pickup program will end next year and discussed plans to request an RFP for appraisal and auction services for items removed under the clean-and-lean process.
