The Des Moines County Board of Supervisors voted June 23 to accept the Veterans Affairs board’s recommendation to contract with All Star Maid Rite Diner to host a monthly 'Coffee and Conversation' veterans outreach event.
Brooke Martin, Veterans Affairs, told the board the department received seven proposals and recommended the Maid Rite diner. The board moved, seconded and approved the recommendation. According to the meeting record, the auditor’s office will prepare a courtesy notification letter to the other proposers and staff asked that Veterans Affairs follow up with the selected vendor.
Board members discussed who should notify unsuccessful proposers and agreed the auditor’s office would send a form letter while departmental staff would make personal calls. There was no public comment on the item.
The action was approved by motion during the regular session and will allow the county’s Veterans Affairs program to hold monthly gatherings intended to connect veterans with local services. The contract start date and specific service terms were not specified in the meeting record; those details will be handled by the county staff and the Veterans Affairs board.
