Des Moines County public health outlines WIC outreach, telehealth tablets and summer clinics

Krista Poga Miller, director of the Des Moines County Health Department, told supervisors on June 23 that public health is using grant funding to expand outreach and services in rural communities.

"We're definitely keeping busy at public health," Miller said, and described work on the 'combat cancer' grant to provide iPad tablets to facilitate telehealth. She said the department is coordinating with the Southeast Iowa WIC director to raise participation and will hold additional immunization clinics: pre-K and kindergarten on July 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and grades 7–12 on July 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Miller also said updated digital trail maps that support the community health needs assessment are posted on public-health and conservation websites and will be printed later.

Miller told the board that Southeastern partners are visiting multiple counties for expanded programming. She framed trails and outdoor opportunities as part of the county's community health strategy and asked board members to note upcoming clinics. There was no public opposition recorded during the presentation.
