Mitchell County approves $10,000 infill demo grant for McIntyre property; program balance falls to roughly $22,000

The Mitchell County Board of Supervisors approved a $10,000 derelict-infill grant on June 23 to finance demolition of a derelict house at 508 Fond du Street in McIntyre.

County economic-development staff presented the application, confirmed ownership documentation and a demolition quote, and noted the county’s infill-lot program had about $32,065 remaining from a previously allocated $200,000. Approving the $10,000 request would reduce the available balance to roughly $22,000, staff said.

The applicant’s demolition estimate was provided by Joann’s Tiling and Excavating and staff said the application met program requirements. Supervisors asked staff to attach the local board approval paperwork and to bring back a discussion on whether the county should allocate an additional $50,000 to the infill program at a future meeting.

Motion to approve the $10,000 award passed on a roll call vote.
