The Town of Needham’s Commissioners of Trust Funds on Tuesday introduced Heath as the board’s new treasurer.
Heath, who the chair described as the new treasurer, said he is “a school business official” with about three-and-a-half years in that role after roughly 15 years in private banking and is relocating from upstate New York. He said he has been “trying to get acclimated” and has been working with staff member Diane to learn local processes.
The introduction came early in the meeting as commissioners welcomed the treasurer and outlined expectations for collaboration. Chair Julia Cosentino said the commissioners expect a cooperative relationship with staff and the treasurer to support gift, scholarship and trust administration in coordination with town procedures.
Why it matters: the treasurer’s office helps ensure trust funds and scholarship disbursements are executed according to donor intent and town rules. Commissioners said they will rely on the treasurer and staff for accurate spreadsheets and reconciliation of multi-year scholarships and one-time awards.
What happened next: commissioners and staff agreed Heath will receive the financial spreadsheets used to reconcile scholarship awards, and staff offered to forward the January planning document and to project spreadsheets during a future meeting so Heath and commissioners can spot-check amounts.
Heath’s onboarding remarks were limited to his background and readiness to assist; commissioners reviewed records and described routine procedures for stamping vouchers and attaching batch listings to the town’s accounting records. The meeting record indicates follow-up will include circulation of the spreadsheets and continued coordination with Diane and other staff.
