At a public hearing June 22, Miss Amber Patrick, director of state and federal programs, presented the district’s planning amounts for federal grant funding for the 2026–27 school year and invited community feedback.
Patrick prefaced the presentation by saying the figures are planning amounts provided by the Texas Education Agency in late spring and typically are finalized later in the summer. She summarized Title I at about $6.4 million and said Title II would be approximately $1.2 million. She listed Title III (English learners) at roughly $466,000 and Title III Immigrant at about $120,000, and Title IV at approximately $452,000. Patrick said the district routinely uses the transferability option where allowable to align funds to priorities such as teacher development and direct student supports.
Special education funding through IDEA‑B was presented at about $6.9 million for 2026–27 (including formula and preschool components), and CTE Perkins funding was listed near $375,000. Patrick also outlined anticipated discretionary awards: a 21st Century after‑school grant (about $45,000), a Texas Education for Homeless Children and Youth grant (about $100,000 anticipated), and a substance‑abuse prevention and behavioral health promotion grant estimated at $1 million to support prevention staff and community coalition work.
Patrick described typical uses for those funds—staffing for targeted intervention, teacher professional learning, intervention resources, contracted specialized services for IDEA programs, CTE tools and equipment, and supports for students experiencing homelessness. She urged parents and community members to submit feedback by email or via the district’s federal programs survey and noted that finalized grant amounts are usually available later in the summer.
There were no public comments during the hearing and trustees were invited to ask questions following the presentation.
