CapMetro’s board voted June 22 to authorize the president and CEO to finalize a contract with Adolphson & Peterson Construction to build Phase 2 of the Demand Response North Base facility in northeast Austin.
Marcus Guerrero, director of facility design and construction, presented renderings and a project overview for the 25-acre site near Cameron Road and Blue Goose Road. He said Phase 2 includes site grading, parking, landscaping, lighting and fencing; four buildings (a three-story administration/operations building, a 16-bay maintenance garage, a fueling and cleaning services building, and a warehouse); bus storage yard with canopies; sustainability features; and a community room for public use. Guerrero said the project will allow CapMetro to eliminate two leases the agency currently holds and that the work is partially funded by a $20,000,000 Federal Transit Administration grant.
The resolution authorizes a contract for $76,695,558 plus a 25% contingency for a not-to-exceed amount of $95,869,448. Board members moved, seconded, and approved the resolution by voice vote.
Guerrero said procurement and construction partners from Adolphson & Peterson were present; staff will continue project-level oversight and coordinate roadway and utility improvements with local jurisdictions. The board did not record a detailed construction schedule in the public portion of the meeting; staff indicated the project has been in development and that phase 1 site work is underway.
