Joy Tran, On-Time Graduation Online Learning Coordinator at Manassas Park High School, told the Manassas Park City Public Schools Board that 266 students in the Class of 2026 graduated on June 5.
"The success of the senior class is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, and more importantly, our students," Tran said, and gave the board a statistical snapshot of the class. She reported that 43.6% of graduates earned advanced diplomas and that, in a self-reported senior survey, 27.9% of students said they plan to attend a four-year college, 42.2% plan to attend a community college, 21.8% plan to enter the workforce and nine students will join the armed forces.
Tran told several brief student vignettes to illustrate the interventions behind those numbers, describing cases in which teachers provided extra instruction, individual outreach and personal encouragement. She gave one example of a teacher who made passing a priority for a senior by arranging sustained study, bringing breakfast before a test and leaving the student's cap and gown nearby as a silent encouragement. "I was convinced that the silent reminder throughout the test was what he needed to pass," Tran said.
On financial outcomes, Tran said students reported collectively earning "over 1 million and $39,000" in scholarships; that figure is presented here as the $1,039,000 amount Tran cited based on student reporting. Tran emphasized that the numbers do not capture the full story: "While these numbers are astounding, our students are so much more than numbers. They are resilient, hard-working, thoughtful, and embody what it means to be a Manassas Park Cougar," she said.
After Tran's presentation, board members expressed appreciation for the stories and the graduation results. One board member said, "It always reminds us of why we are here... it's all about the students." The board also noted the scholarship total as an item of particular pride.
The presentation credited Manassas Park High School staff and families for persistent outreach and interventions that supported students with attendance, testing and personal challenges. Tran closed by congratulating the class: "Congratulations to the class of 2026. Thank you."
