Commission asks staff to check emergency access after barriers installed at Bloom Two site

A Plan Commission member raised a public-safety concern during the meeting about concrete barriers recently placed at the Bloom Two redevelopment site, saying the placement could block planned emergency access and vehicle maneuvering for emergency responders.

Commissioner Chris said the barriers were intended to prevent cut-through traffic but could restrict fire and service access routes that had been shown on earlier site plans. He urged staff to consult the fire chief and police chief to evaluate whether the barriers create a safety issue for servicing or emergency ingress and egress.

Staff member Doug responded that he would raise the concern with both chiefs. No determination or official finding was made at the meeting; commissioners asked staff to follow up and report any guidance or required mitigations at a future meeting.
