The Select Board on June 22 approved an entertainment license for the Westport Pride Festival, allowing the third annual community event to move to town property at Matt Cumber Fields on June 28.
Applicant Keith Das told the board the festival is shifting from a church property to town grounds and that the event’s operating hours would be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (grounds use 8 a.m.–7 p.m.). Organizers said they had coordinated with police, the school department and public‑safety staff and that volunteers would assist with parking to avoid neighborhood impacts. Asked about alcohol, Das said, “absolutely not,” and stressed the event would be family‑oriented.
Residents and board members asked about noise, parking, insurance and the group’s nonprofit status. Das said the event carried a certificate of liability that listed “Westport Pride Foundation” and named the town as co‑insured; he also said the organizer is actively forming a 501(c)(3) and had established a steering board. The board conditioned approval on meeting the police department’s public‑safety recommendations and voted 4–0 (one member absent) to grant the license.
What happens next: Organizers will proceed with logistics for June 28, including volunteer parking marshals and coordination with police and school officials. The board asked staff to ensure police‑detail conditions are observed.
