Liza, a county staff member, asked the committee to accept Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds to support Warren County’s summer youth employment program, and the board approved the request by voice vote.
The county’s summer program will place 34 youth this year at 25 worksites across Warren County, Liza said. Orientation is scheduled to begin Monday; staff described on‑the‑job training, financial literacy sessions delivered by a credit union facilitator and job‑coach support for youth with disabilities and youth on probation. "We cover their salaries and insurance," Liza said, describing the program’s scope.
Liza also reported recent education outcomes tied to the department’s workforce efforts: a GED class produced five credential completions this year and additional candidates are testing this summer. She noted partnerships that place interns in county departments, including planning and social services, and said two local participants obtained commercial driver licenses and immediate job placements.
The staff update included a note of caution about federal funding: some proposed federal cuts are moving through committee and the county will monitor how those proposals affect local programming. Liza provided the most recent unemployment snapshot available to the committee, citing an April unemployment rate of 4.2% for Warren County and 4.4% for the Glens Falls metro area.
The motion to receive the TANF funds was made, seconded and carried by voice vote. The committee did not record a roll‑call tally in the transcript. The staff member said she will provide further updates to the board as the program continues through the summer.
The committee also discussed a housekeeping reimbursement item related to occupancy tax and a prior hospitality workforce celebration debt (referenced as Resolution 66 of 2026); staff said the auditor requires a revenue stream and offered to return with the item in July if it could not be completed that day.
