Warren County’s Environmental Concerns and Real Property Tax Services committee voted to authorize abandonment and conveyance of a portion of Old State Route 8 to Travel Town Incorporated, the committee heard on Tuesday.
The segment under consideration — listed as parcel 87.20-1-4 — was described by staff as no longer used by New York State following a discontinuance of use dated Dec. 15, 1967, and as having no foreseeable county use. Director Mchuan told the committee the conveyance would merge the unused strip into property already owned by Travel Town Incorporated and noted existing access needs, including an easement for a billboard.
“The other portion of the road has already been merged into the southern property,” Director Mchuan said. “At this point, it’s kind of just hanging out there.”
Supervisor Echo moved the resolution and Supervisor Strainer seconded it. Committee members asked a few clarifying questions — including whether any mineral rights would be affected — but no monetary payment was reported as part of the transfer. The committee chair called for the question and the motion carried; no roll-call vote or tally was recorded in the public transcript.
The committee packet indicated the parcel had been taken out of state use decades ago and that the county has no operational need for the strip. Staff said the transfer would tidy county records by merging the abandoned roadway into the adjoining parcel already held by Travel Town Incorporated.
The committee did not specify a timetable for completing conveyance paperwork during the meeting; staff indicated separately that standard deed and merger procedures would follow the committee’s authorization.
The committee moved on to other agenda items after the vote.
