Staff told the commission the request would amend an existing conditional-use permit for 8230 Highway 7, where used-auto sales have historically been allowed up to a maximum of 20 displayed vehicles. The applicants said they want to add preassembled storage sheds as a permissible display item and that the historical maximum display number would remain unchanged.
Applicant Doug Park and authorized dealer Vanessa Strong told commissioners the site would likely average about 10 displayed units and that sheds would range from roughly 8-by-12 feet to larger models. "On average it's 10; once in a while it's had 15 but on average it's 10," an applicant said when asked about typical inventory.
Commissioners discussed customer traffic, whether a permanent on-site sales office or a porta-potty should be required given occasional customer visits, and the need to retain appearance standards used for vehicle displays. The commission closed the hearing and voted to recommend the amendment to the City Council; staff said the council will consider the recommendation on July 20.
