Planning commission recommends council review of equipment shelters and backup generators for fiber site at 9385 County Road 26

Staff presented a site-plan review for installation of two equipment shelters and two backup generators at 9385 County Road 26 to support a long-haul fiber/regeneration route. The shelters and generators would be sited inside a fenced lease area with screening slats and would be used primarily to regenerate signals and provide resilience on the route.

Tim Hoger, identified on the record as representing IIG, told the commission the site would not initially be used for fiber-to-the-home service but would act as a relay point along a diverse long-haul route. "We're doing a route ... ability to regenerate this area," Hoger said, adding the generators are backup equipment that would cycle monthly for testing and run during outages.

Neighbors asked about fuel storage, spill mitigation and prior contractor work that had damaged yards and landscaping during earlier fiber installations; several residents described torn-up lawns and inadequate restoration. Applicants said they had negotiated screening and siting with immediate neighbors and will use selected contractors and remediation plans. After discussion the commission voted to recommend the plan to the City Council; staff said the council will take final action on July 20.
