Heard County names DFACS, tax assessor and library board appointees; resident urges hydrant upkeep

At its May 22, 2014 meeting, the Heard County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved three board appointments and heard a public comment urging improved hydrant maintenance.

The Board appointed Fred Harcrow to the Heard County Board of Family and Children Services (DFACS) on a motion by Commissioner Frank Crook, seconded by Commissioner Gwen Caldwell. On a separate motion by Commissioner Gwen Caldwell, seconded by Commissioner Crook, the Board appointed Jerry Nixon to the Heard County Board of Tax Assessors to fill a fifth seat vacant since 2012; Mr. Nixon confirmed he can meet the education requirements. Commissioner Larry Hooks noted he had no objection to Mr. Nixon but requested that the next nominee come from District 1 to preserve district representation.

The Board also unanimously appointed Mrs. Shirley Craven to the Heard County Library Board to replace Ms. Martha Kilgore, who can no longer serve because of her work schedule. During the public comment period, Mr. Jerry Nixon (also the new appointee) asked the Board to improve upkeep of fire hydrants across the county.

All three appointment motions passed unanimously. The minutes do not record any contested votes or alternate nominees and list no additional terms or next steps for orientation or reporting.
