Hull’s council on Aug. 28 authorized repairs to a flagpole at the city well, ordering a new U.S. flag and state flag and installation of nighttime illumination, and deferred a separate request for expanded lawn-maintenance services pending further cost clarification.
Mayor John Barber presented a written quote from Allegiance Flag Company for $566.40 to repair the well’s flagpole, supply a new U.S. flag and a state flag, and install a light to illuminate the flags at night. On a motion by Mike McElroy, seconded by Yvonee Davenport, the council unanimously approved proceeding at the quoted price.
Separately, Barber reported he had spoken with the city’s current lawn-maintenance contractor, Luke Perdue, about performing additional work — trimming crepe myrtles, cleaning curbs and medians, and trimming shrubs. Council members expressed concern about the contractor’s estimate and tabled the matter to the September meeting so Barber can obtain clarification and to allow consideration of a possible three-month contract extension to have the services performed.
Routine items that the council approved during the meeting included the July meeting minutes and the financial reports. The meeting concluded after the clerk reported the 2022 Agreed Upon Procedures had been submitted to the state and said she will assemble documents for the 2023 procedures.
