City Attorney Danny Love told the Hull Mayor and Council on May 28 that, according to Georgia law, the city's current building inspector is not considered a "qualified person" to serve as building inspector.
"Under the law our current Building Inspector was not considered a 'qualified person' to serve as our building inspector," Love said, but he added that the inspector could continue to serve provided a proper notice was given and accepted and the notice is posted at City Hall. Love also suggested he and Mayor John Barber re-open discussions with the County to see whether the City could enter an intergovernmental agreement for the County to conduct inspections and what the County would require.
Next steps recorded in the minutes: Mayor Barber and Attorney Love will attempt to set up a meeting with the County to discuss inspection arrangements; the Clerk will post the notice on the bulletin board at City Hall and will place a copy on the city website.
Why it matters: Building-inspection qualifications determine who may lawfully perform code inspections and approve permits; the issue could affect the timeline for local permits and whether the City can continue relying on the incumbent inspector or must amend its arrangements with the County.
