Selectmen authorize investigation of purchase-and-sale for Bruce Scott parcel near ballfield

The Stonington Selectmen voted to direct town staff to investigate a purchase-and-sale (P&S) agreement with the owners of the Bruce Scott parcel next to the town ballfield. The stated intention is to explore the site’s use for economic development and as a future location for the fire station if town meeting approves acquisition and funding articles.

The board met in executive session under 1 M.R.S.A. §405(6)(C) to discuss land-acquisition negotiations and returned to the public meeting to record the motion and vote. The board’s motion to look into a P&S agreement passed 4-0; the motion included the contingency that any purchase would require town meeting authorization and approval of funding articles.

Town staff will follow up by contacting the property owners and preparing preliminary P&S terms for selectmen review and, if appropriate, voter consideration at the next town meeting.
