The Hamilton County Drainage Board on June 8 set a July 13, 2026 bid acceptance date for the J.S. McCarty Phase 2 reconstruction project and received several construction updates and surety acceptances.
Surveyor Gary Duncan told the board the office would present J.S. McCarty Phase 2 bids at the July 13 meeting; Christine Altman moved to accept bids at that meeting, Dillinger seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Duncan also summarized multiple construction projects: Park Broadway Arm Phase 2 (Clara Knots Drain) is awaiting a Duke Energy pole relocation before the contractor can remobilize; Mary Wilson/Oak Park Drain reconstruction is substantially complete and staff will schedule a punch‑list walkthrough and restore concession electric service; William Lehr Drain J.S. McCarty Phase 3 is nearing final inspection with seeding nearly complete; Elwood Wilson (Craig‑Holleran Arm) continues toward Promise Road, weather permitting; and Anchorage Drain contractor work has begun, with a meeting to address a possible incorrect easement stake.
Two projects—Hortonville Drain and West Arcadia (Miller Arm of the Wilson Nagle Drain)—will be canceled and their ARPA funds reassigned to the J.S. McCarty Phase 2 project; formal documents to cancel the ARPA projects were reported as in process.
The board also accepted two sureties to be presented at the afternoon Commissioners meeting: Performance Bond No. 268022597 for $249,130.00 (Homes by McKenzie, Inc., Storm Sewer, Jackson's Grant Village Section 3) and Performance Bond No. 268022598 for $4,716.00 (Homes by McKenzie, Inc., Monumentation for Jackson's Grant Village Section 3).
Why it matters: Setting the bid date advances a significant county drainage reconstruction project; reallocating ARPA funds centralizes available federal/local funding for prioritized construction, and surety acceptance confirms contractor financial assurance for development guarantees.
What’s next: Bids for J.S. McCarty Phase 2 will be accepted at the July 13 Board meeting; staff will finalize ARPA cancellation documents and proceed with contractor coordination and final inspections where projects are substantially complete.
