Daryn Sturch was elected president of the North Miami Community Schools Board of Trustees during the board’s Jan. 20 regular meeting, with a 6-0 vote after nominations were closed. The board moved quickly through annual reorganization items, electing David Floyd vice president, Amy Eckrote secretary and Stan Hudson assistant secretary in motions that each carried 6-0.
The board also approved several administrative appointments and authorizations. Serena Francis was appointed School Corporation Treasurer and Meghan Miller was appointed deputy treasurer. Kenneth Hanson was named the School Corporation Purchaser, and Michelle Cooper was appointed corporation attorney/general counsel. The board authorized the treasurer to prepay utilities and other necessary payments when appropriate; those motions passed unanimously.
Board members made the nominations on the floor and recorded seconder names where provided. Sam Finnegan nominated Sturch for president; Stan Hudson seconded the nomination. Motions to close nominations and to approve each appointment were carried by 6-0 votes.
The reorganization provides the formal leadership and administrative authorizations that the board will use for routine business and for signing agreements that require delegated signatories. The board is scheduled to meet next on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, according to the district calendar.
