Janet Morlock, speaking on behalf of Relay For Life Sierra Vista, invited community members to a kickoff continental breakfast on Saturday, June 27, 9:00–11:00 a.m., at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church to launch local fundraising and volunteer recruitment for the October Relay.
"Relay For Life is entering its 32nd year in Sierra Vista," Morlock said, describing the event as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and a community opportunity to celebrate survivors, support caregivers and raise money for research and local services. She described Relay as both a fundraising and community‑building event and said the kickoff is a low‑commitment way for newcomers to learn how to participate.
Morlock provided contact points for organizers and survivors: committee chair Nina Sanchez at 520‑249‑3615, survivor coordinator Leanne Schmidt at 520‑249‑6164, and Morlock at 520‑266‑1101. She encouraged attendees to bring canned‑food donations to weight luminaria bags (the canned goods will be donated to local food banks), and said the kickoff will include games, raffles and a space‑themed costume prize for best outfit.
Organizers said Relay helps survivors, connects caregivers to resources and supports a 24‑hour American Cancer Society hotline. Morlock closed by encouraging people to join a team or volunteer leadership roles, and noted local businesses can support the event.
