East Hampton ARB approves two Montauk storefront signs

The East Hampton Architectural Review Board on June 11 unanimously approved two business sign applications for storefronts in Montauk.

Diane, a board member, told the meeting the proposed sign for Black Cats auto repair at 213 Edgeir Street ‘‘brings a little life and…pizzazz to an otherwise very nice, very well‑maintained but simple building.’’ Melanie, representing the applicant for Black Cats, confirmed the building’s existing exterior light would be used and said the application did not request any new lighting.

The board then considered a sign for a new retail tenant referenced as Luluar at 92 South Uclid Avenue. Harry Mard of Hampton Signs described the proposed materials and said the shop’s curated merchandise and storefront presentation made the project ‘‘the most charming project that I can imagine.’’ Board members said the sign’s proportions and pale color fit the building and the streetscape.

In both cases, members moved, seconded and voted to approve the applications as presented. The meeting record states the motions passed unanimously; specific mover/second names and individual vote counts were not given in the transcript.

The approvals include standard conditions that exterior lighting not be added beyond what was represented and that staff confirm final drawings and mounting details before permits are issued.
