Cuba City board weighs tradeoffs for track and football field rebuild, seeks options for July

The Cuba City School Board spent significant time reviewing timing options for a planned football‑field resurfacing and a full track replacement, with administrators and construction staff urging careful sequencing to avoid damage to newly completed work.

Construction representatives advised that the football field must be regraded and prepared before the track base is rebuilt. A construction lead cautioned, "you've got to do the football field first, then the track. You can't do the track first and then football field because then you'll wreck the track," emphasizing practical sequencing constraints.

Board members and the athletic director, Carrie, discussed the athletic and scheduling consequences of different phasing choices. Options under consideration included completing the turf in one summer and postponing track work (which could cost the district some track meets and practice capacity) or doing track work after a football season — a choice that could require teams to be away for some or all home games in a year. Board members noted bleacher lead times of roughly 10–12 weeks and flagged the need to coordinate schedules with conference opponents and neighboring schools if home fields are unavailable.

Administrators said the district could seek bids this fall and be ready to start work after the 2027 football season under one proposed schedule. The board asked staff and the civil designer to return at the July meeting with three concrete options that outline timing tradeoffs, estimated costs and the likely impact on home contests and practice logistics.
