Board conducts first reading of seven policy updates, including transportation and student health wording

Superintendent Julie Nielson presented a first reading of seven proposed policy updates in the 400 and 700 series, noting most were legal or grammatical updates.

Items reviewed included policy 404 (employment and volunteer background checks), 404.1 (staff ID badges), 409 (employee publications and instructional materials), policies on student communicable diseases, and transportation policies 707, 708 and 709. Nielson said there were no substantive programmatic changes in most policies; several transportation policies received language updates to refer consistently to a "child with a disability."

The policies were reviewed previously by the board's policy committee and were presented for the first reading; no public comment was received and no vote was taken.
