Mercer County board accepts secretary's resignation, names Stacy Griffith as new board secretary and honors retirees

The Mercer County Board of Education voted to accept the resignation of Board Secretary Holly Cotch and appointed Stacy Griffith to fill the role.

The chair said Cotch is moving to a human resources role within the district and recently welcomed her second child, and the board "greatly appreciate[d] all the work Holly's done" in supporting meetings. Board members moved and seconded the resignation acceptance and then approved Stacy Griffith as the new board secretary.

The board used the early portion of the meeting to recognize student accomplishments and longtime staff. Board member Mr. Pruitt highlighted McKinley Nichols as a state champion in a website design challenge and praised Jayla Freeman and Abigail Lewis for awards and leadership. The board also honored certified staff members who are retiring after long service, including Lisa Coleman and several others; speakers thanked them for their years of service.

The appointments and recognitions were handled by standard motions and roll-call procedures and were completed before the meeting moved on to reports and business.
