Council members reported progress on water-system work: Marshall and Matt (speakers present) said cementing is scheduled and pump tests will follow. Staff warned residents that during cement curing and pump testing there would be windows of restricted pumping and possible low pressure for hill-top customers. Tyler and others recommended a new tank to add storage rather than installing a new large-diameter main; that recommendation will be evaluated in follow-up engineering work.
On public safety, the council and the fire department representative (speaker 9) reviewed the town's $15,000 annual support for the volunteer fire department and asked for a line-item spending plan. The council discussed setting an approval threshold for purchases above a certain amount so large-fire purchases are coordinated with the council. The fire representative described maintenance, pump tests, and equipment concerns including SCBA and tanks.
The council also discussed July 4th plans: parade lineup time, town-provided dinner and interest in fireworks. The fire representative warned of dry conditions and recommended caution; council members agreed to proceed if there are sufficient personnel and pre-event mitigation (mowing, water spray) and to postpone the fireworks if weather or wind makes them unsafe.
Council asked staff to follow up with the fire department for a proposed budget with line items and to bring alternatives (labor, donated paint/materials) for tasks such as painting hydrants to improve visibility.
