Planning Commission approves We Energies guard house replacement at Port Washington Generating Station

On June 18, 2026, the Port Washington Planning Commission voted to approve a proposal from We Energies to replace the guard house at 146 South Wisconsin Street, the Main Street entrance to the Port Washington Generating Station. Mr. Harris, the staff presenter, described the project as a like-for-like replacement with a few additional square feet and said elevations are available in the meeting packet. "I think this is about as straightforward as it gets," Mr. Harris said, recommending approval.

The commission considered the proposal as a minor review item required by zoning for security buildings and asked no substantive questions. A commissioner moved to approve the plan "as presented" and, after a voice vote in which commissioners answered in the affirmative and no opposition was recorded, the motion carried. The agenda identified Bill Burkey (We Energies) as the applicant and noted We Energies representatives were available during the discussion.

The approval leaves the guard house in the same location on Coal Dock Park Drive; staff noted the replacement will use the elevations included in the packet. After the vote commissioners exchanged brief remarks before moving on to the next agenda item. The commission then proceeded to a separate agenda item on a residential fence setback exemption.
