Russ Lawrence told the council the June Sucker Recovery Implementation Program is soliciting nominations from Blue Ribbon members for an angler/technical representative on its monthly technical committee.
"What this person would be doing would be sitting on our technical committee meetings, which are basically once a month...and just helping to craft recommendations as we come up with management plans and projects for the recovery of the June sucker," Lawrence said. Meetings are typically the second Tuesday or Wednesday of each month and average about two hours.
Council members discussed qualifications — the program is seeking critical thinkers and team players rather than a requirement for advanced degrees — and agreed to think about local anglers who could represent an angler perspective. Lawrence said the committee aims to balance recovery of the June sucker under the Endangered Species Act with continued water-resource development.
Members agreed to solicit candidates and follow up with Lawrence within about two weeks so staff can include Blue Ribbon nominations in the selection process.
