Bennet City Council adopts SS4A Safety Action Plan

The Bennet City Council adopted Resolution 2026-1.1 on Jan. 19, 2026, formally approving the SS4A Safety Action Plan after a presentation of the plan’s final report. The motion to adopt, moved by Pete Simmons and seconded by Dan Zieg, passed on a roll call vote with YES votes from Jesse Schmidt, Pete Simmons, Dan Zieg and Josh Buck.

Kyle McLaughlin presented the Bennet Safety Action Plan Final Report and described possible grant opportunities to fund elements of the plan. Mayor Ryan Cheney introduced the resolution to adopt the plan, and council members discussed next steps for seeking grant funding to implement recommended safety projects.

The council’s adoption creates an official municipal Safety Action Plan that the city can cite when applying for federal and state safety grants; the minutes record discussion of pursuing grant applications but do not specify any grants awarded or yet applied for. City Engineer Brian Schuele noted related infrastructure ideas during the meeting, including a proposed concrete parking area at the T-Ball Field, which the council reviewed but did not formally act on in this meeting.

The resolution was adopted at the meeting; council members and staff indicated they will pursue funding opportunities and return with implementation details and any grant applications at future meetings.
