Council approves United Way use agreement to open Family Resource Center at Mitchell‑Nelson Elementary

Director Duke told the council the proposed agreement would allow United Way of South Central Tennessee to use designated office space at Mitchell‑Nelson Elementary to connect families and students with resources and support services.

Under the agreement, the district provides the space and basic utilities through June 30 with an option to renew; United Way would cover staffing, supplies, equipment, insurance and all operating expenses related to the center. Duke said the Board of Education approved the agreement at its June 9 meeting and staff described the initiative as having minimal financial impact on the district and requiring no additional funding.

Council members expressed support for the site choice and the partnership’s potential to strengthen family and student supports. After a motion and second, the council approved the use agreement by roll call.
