Kim Strickland updated the board on Person County’s America 250 programming and partnerships. Highlights include genealogy programs June 20 and July 11 hosted with the North Carolina Historical Room and State Library resources; a children’s book reading and lawmaking discussion June 26; an oral‑history project titled “Let’s Get Personal” beginning July 1 and running through the end of the year; a youth‑focused ComicCon celebrating American heroes; and a Sappony traveling display on Aug. 8 at 12 p.m.
Strickland told commissioners the program stretches a $10,000 state grant through partnerships with the museum, cooperative extension and the tourism development authority (TDA), which also funded banners and other promotional materials. The schedule culminates in a July 4 parade and associated Uptown Firecracker Kids Kickoff and community events.
What’s next: Organizers will proceed with scheduled events and continued outreach; the TDA will promote activities via banners, coasters with QR codes, and other advertising.
