Commission hires comparative officer and moves personnel matter into executive session

The Kensington Police Commission voted to hire Daniel as a comparative hire officer following executive-session procedures on personnel.

Chairman Rogan called a roll call on the hiring motion; recorded affirmative votes in the transcript include Chairman Rogan, Vice Chair Dy, Commissioner Giani and Commissioner Zel. The commission congratulated Daniel after the vote.

The hiring followed a motion to enter executive session under Connecticut General Statute 1-200 to discuss the appointment, employment, performance evaluation or dismissal of a public employee related to Lieutenant Martin. The motion specified invited participants including the chief, Lieutenant Martin, counsel and the applicant; the commission then resumed open session to act on hiring.

Earlier in the meeting commissioners debated and approved amendments to the May 20 and May 26 minutes, including recording the outcomes of amendment votes and adding a note that Chairman Rogan’s comments from the May 26 transcript are incorporated by reference into the minutes.

The commission instructed staff to record the amended minutes and to prepare the written response on the hiring action and the incorporation-by-reference language. The commission noted a related certification reinstatement process that staff will follow up on at the next scheduled meeting.
