Little Rock has installed nine free community food pantries across the city, city leaders said, and the units are available 24 hours a day and stocked with nonperishable items for anyone who needs them.
“Ashley King of THV11 said, 'the city has installed 9 free food pantries across Little Rock, and they're available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,'” though the initiative itself was described in the report as coming from city leaders rather than a single named official.
The pantries were made from repurposed newspaper racks and placed on public property around the city, the report said. City leaders told the reporter the goal is to help address food insecurity and make it easier for people to access food when they need it most.
Members of the public may drop off donations at any of the pantry locations, the segment said; the report called the program “one of those simple ideas that could make a big difference for a lot of families.” The city did not specify in the briefing how the pantries will be stocked long term, which agency will manage ongoing maintenance, or how the program is funded.
