The Haslet HCEDC Type B board voted unanimously on June 17 to approve a revised matching-grant process to support local businesses, restoring a program that had been removed from board oversight more than a year earlier.
Under the approved process, eligible businesses within the city may apply for matching grants of up to $10,000 to support building improvements, signage and similar eligible expenses. Board members discussed geographic preference and asked staff to link the program to the zoning ordinance map (Old Town core) and to explicitly add Schoolhouse Road as a preferential area; the board approved that edit as part of the motion.
Staff said the grant will be posted on the city/EDC website with a fillable application form and referenced the existing zoning-ordinance figure that maps Old Town Core. Board members asked staff to prepare an exhibit or map for the program page to help applicants identify eligible parcels and suggested building a wait list or tying future awards to the fiscal year budget cycle.
The board also discussed the initial budget allocation for the grant program and options to increase capital outlay and to advertise the program once the application process is live.
