Dave Wallally, Londonderry’s director of public works, outlined plans on-site at High Range Road and Royal Lane for a waterline extension that will continue north from the phase-one terminus near Parmentor Road to Alexander Road.
Wallally said the next phase of work will begin “within the next couple of weeks” and will complete the loop and the full connection to Alexander Road, enabling the town to restore pavement and reduce future settlement along the trench.
He described recent and upcoming pavement work, saying crews applied a leveling course last week to address sags from winter plowing and that a finished course will follow so “there shouldn't be any more sagging and settlements for many years to come.”
The project includes installing water service drops to each property, Wallally said, positioned outside the public right of way so homeowners who choose to connect to the water system will not need the road re-excavated later. "Those are all put in at every property owner's house, they're outside the right of way and they'll only have to disturb their property to bring the water into their home," he said.
Wallally identified the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services as a primary funding source for this and related projects, saying the town is "talking about ... dollar amounts close to 10 to $50 million" coming into the community through various sources and asserting the work is not being paid "out of the taxpayers' pockets." He also listed partner utilities involved in coordination: Penetruck Waterworks, Manchester Waterworks, Dair Waterworks and Hawk.
Acknowledging residents' frustration with simultaneous construction across town, Wallally asked for patience and emphasized the projects are planned to benefit residents and avoid rushed work. He closed by thanking attendees and expressing hope the field briefing helped people understand how the roads will be restored and connections made.
The town expects construction on this phase to begin in the coming weeks and to proceed toward Alexander Road; no specific start date or final cost estimate was provided in the briefing.
