A representative of the Pike County Swim Club asked the Waverly Village Council on June 17 for financial relief after the pool faced unexpected repairs and ongoing utility costs.
The club representative described the pool as a community resource that offers lessons, hosts community days and employs about 15 local high school and college students. The representative said the club recently faced an "unexpected $4,500 repair bill" and asked the council to provide a one-time offset of the club's water utility costs for the season.
Council members discussed options and a council member said the more appropriate mechanism would be a one-time general-fund payment to offset the bill rather than a direct utility credit, subject to legal advice. The council moved and approved the measure with a roll-call vote; the auditor and legal staff were asked to advise on the exact mechanism.
Council members described the swim club as an asset to the community and agreed to structure the assistance consistent with legal guidance and internal policies. The motion carried on a roll-call vote recorded in the minutes.
