The Fridley Public Schools board on June 16 approved a tentative custodial agreement covering 2026–2028, following a recommendation from Superintendent Dr. Lewis and the district’s bargaining team.
Dr. Lewis told the board the custodial proposals were “exceptionally reasonable” and emphasized that the agreement emphasizes recruiting and retaining staff while creating career pathways, including opportunities linked to boiler licenses and other certifications. Mark McLaren, representing the custodial team, thanked district negotiators and said this will be his last contract negotiation.
Board member Stark moved to approve the tentative agreement and Shriner seconded. The board took a roll-call vote and recorded unanimous approval. Administration said the agreement is intended to support frontline operations that keep facilities clean and safe and to help the district retain experienced custodial staff.
The board did not provide detailed compensation figures in the public presentation. The vote was procedural and completed during the superintendent’s report so the custodial team members present could hear board approval; administrators urged the board to express appreciation to custodial staff.
