Berlin commission approves Rotary Club’s 'Flags for Heroes' display at Nathan Strong Park

The Berlin Parks and Recreation Commission on Wednesday, June 17 approved a request from the Berlin Rotary Club to install a temporary 'Flags for Heroes' display at Nathan Strong Park from June 22 through July 13.

Kyle Camp, who identified himself as "the third year president of Rotary Club," presented the proposal and said the club planned to place "these like hundred flags" and sell dedications so community members could "honor a hero." He described the display as a patriotic fundraiser that highlights veterans and other local contributors.

Camp told commissioners the Rotary Club has been active in the community for "about five, six years," that club volunteers would install and remove the flags, and that gym member Dave Parker had offered to loan a stake pounder to help with installation. Camp also referenced club member Jerry and community member Don Roso as part of local support for the project.

A commissioner moved to approve the request and another seconded. The transcript records the chair calling for the vote and announcing, "Motion carried."
