Rancho Palos Verdes recreation coordinator Simi Soto joined Studio RPV to outline the city’s summer schedule, highlighting the Fourth of July celebration, movies in the park and the summer concert series.
Soto said the Fourth of July event will include family contests (watermelon roll, hula hoop and pie-eating contests including a mayor’s event), inflatables and games for children, and a patriotic drone show to close the night. “Boomer is going to close us out from 6:00 to 8:00 and then we’ll end everything with our patriotic drone show,” Soto said.
Soto described event logistics: on-site parking will cost $10 cash, and organizers will offer free parking with a shuttle between the Point Vicente Interpretive Center and the Ken Miller Civic Center. “There’ll be a shuttle that takes you back and forth between the Ken Miller Civic Center and the Point Vicente Interpretive Center,” she said.
Soto also previewed the movies-in-the-park schedule and summer concert: Studio RPV listed Bad Guys 2 on June 13, a July 11 screening, Hoppers on Aug. 8 (with free popcorn and pre-movie activities), and a concert by Pool Vixen on Aug. 22. She encouraged residents to register for recreation classes at rpvca.gov/parks, noting classes at Ladera Linda Community Park and offerings for adults and families.
Soto said the recreation team has increased staffing, extended park hours and held all-staff training to prepare for larger summer crowds. The city’s next major public event is the Fourth of July celebration; Soto encouraged early arrival and noted parking alternatives and the shuttle service.
