Pedro Pet Pals, a San Pedro–based 501(c)(3), runs monthly adoption events at Eastview Park, and volunteers told Studio RPV they use the park’s location and dog-park traffic to socialize foster animals and find permanent homes.
Frank Patterson, who identified himself as Pedro Pet Pals’ secretary and treasurer, said the group brings dogs from foster care and cats from its downtown cat lounge to the monthly event so they can socialize and be visible to potential adopters. “Today, we’ve got a number of cats from our foster collection, as well as the facility, and they’re getting settled in the kennels,” Patterson said.
A presenter on site, Gabriel, said the Eastview events moved to the first Saturday of each month and reported adoption totals since August 2024: “we had over 47 dogs adopted and 37 cats adopted.” Hosts noted the time for the Eastview adoptions as 12:00–3:00 p.m. and that because the Fourth of July falls on a close date, the next scheduled Eastview adoption will be Aug. 1.
Pedro Pet Pals volunteers said the events include a fostering frolic to help socialize dogs and encourage adoption; the group also operates a cat lounge in downtown San Pedro with drop-in hours. Studio RPV’s segment included on-site video and volunteers encouraging viewers to consider adoption or fostering.
No city licensing, enforcement action or municipal funding for the adoptions was mentioned on air. The program presented the adoptions as a volunteer-run, nonprofit effort.
