The Maywood Board of Education on Monday approved its consent agenda, including $337,506.50 in claims and payroll, retained its 2025 officers for 2026 and approved the hiring of a fourth-grade teacher.
The unanimous votes came at the district’s regular meeting in the Maywood Public Schools Media Center. The consent agenda approved minutes from the Dec. 8, 2025 meeting and a package of claims and payroll totaling $337,506.50. That total included General Fund claims of $66,391.47; Lunch Fund claims of $9,385.71; Petty Cash claims of $666.88; Activity Fund claims of $11,545.04; and payroll totaling $249,517.40. The motion to approve the consent agenda was made by Marty Schurr and seconded by Thom Worth; the tally recorded was 5-0.
The consent agenda listed vendor and payroll details, including check ranges and named vendors such as ESU #15 ($21,535.75), IXL Learning ($4,362.50), The Waldinger Corporation ($4,346.25), and Unitech ($3,995.00). Lunch fund vendors included U.S. Foods ($4,484.68) and CashWa ($2,597.20). The board record also notes smaller activity and payroll disbursements as part of the total.
Board business included routine organizational actions. The board voted 5-0 to adjourn sine die and elect board officers for 2026, then approved a motion to retain all board officers in the same offices they held in 2025. President Marty Schurr appointed members to the standing committees for the year.
The board also authorized designated check signers for district funds (Board officers, the superintendent and the treasurer), reviewed and signed a Board Code of Conduct from the Nebraska Association of School Boards and signed a Potential Conflict of Interest statement required by the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Act.
Financial and administrative designations approved by the board included naming Henderson State Bank as the official depository and designating the Valley Voice and the McCook Gazette as the district’s official news publications. The board named KSB School Law as official district legal counsel and Schroeder & Schroeder as local counsel; Superintendent Bejot told the board that KSB School Law had raised its rates (no dollar amount specified in the record).
On personnel, the board approved the hire of Mrs. Jennifer Venter as the district’s fourth-grade teacher (motion by Barbara Fritsche, seconded by Jason Johnson; vote 5-0).
The board approved the 2024–2025 Maywood Annual Review by a 5-0 vote and adjourned at 7:43 p.m., setting its next regular meeting for Feb. 9, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library.
