The Waupaca Common Council approved two second-reading ordinances that revise the municipal building and zoning codes.
Justin Barren, interim city administrator and public works director, summarized ordinance 05-26-2026 as an update that allows the building inspector to waive the need for a building permit for prefabricated sheds under 150 square feet while preserving zoning reviews for lot setbacks and material standards. "It would save an applicant some money not having to do a building permit," Barren said. Council moved, seconded and approved the ordinance by roll-call vote (eight ayes).
Barren also outlined ordinance 06-26-2026, a cleanup of zoning-code definitions that adds a definition for "construction-related business," clarifying where such uses are permitted (B6, I1, I2) and tidying several definitional items in chapter 17. Council approved the ordinance on second reading in a unanimous roll-call vote.
Both actions were routine second readings; no amendments were made at the meeting.
