County says it expects to regain control of Maryland landing at Whites Ferry and hopes to reopen soon

In response to a question about Whites Ferry negotiations, County Executive Mark said the county expects to gain control of the Maryland-side landing and that leadership changes on the Virginia side of negotiations have improved prospects for a deal.

Mark said personalities between prior owners had stalled discussions and that the county will be in control of negotiations on the Maryland side, which he said should make a deal possible within weeks to a reasonable timeline; he cautioned that reopening will require rehabilitation of the boat and ferry infrastructure and will not happen overnight. He added that interim operations on the site (notably a nearby grill) will remain open under the new arrangements.
