The Lancaster School District reported total enrollment of 13,898 students for the upcoming year, including 13,541 students in UTK through eighth grade and 357 in early learning programs. Board members were told the district currently counts 1,232 students experiencing homelessness and 303 students in foster care.
At the meeting, Dr. Maretti outlined how the district supplements local social services with school-based offerings, citing vaccination clinics, in-school eyeglasses and dental services, and family supports such as coats, backpacks, gas cards and housing vouchers. "We do that work for children," he said, describing services that help families access healthcare and basic needs through school programs.
Dr. Maretti emphasized the district's community role and the scale of operations: "We have over 2,000 employees that come every day trying to do what's best for children," he said, and urged the community to recognize the breadth of services provided at school sites.
The board did not vote on new funding allocations during the meeting; the report functioned as an informational update ahead of the summer and the next school year.
