The Town of Cromwell Planning & Zoning Commission on June 16 approved a special permit allowing the SpringHill Suites at 76 Berlin Road to serve alcoholic beverages to hotel guests.
At the public hearing, Milan Patel, who said he represents the hotel operator, told the commission the amenity was a continuation of a prior hotel service and would be limited to registered guests. "Yes, it's only for res[idents]," Patel said when asked whether the service would be restricted to hotel patrons. Planning staff told the commission the application meets requirements for the Highway Business (HB) zone and noted a prior special permit had existed for the site.
The applicant described operational details during questioning: hours were stated as 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily, and the hotel plans to offer a small menu of finger‑food items alongside beverages. Staff praised the application materials, which included floor plans and a sample menu, and said there were no staff concerns with the request as submitted.
After closing the hearing, the commission moved to approve Application 26‑18 and approved it by voice vote. Planning staff said the office will prepare the special‑permit letter and paperwork; the permit will take effect once the applicant files the required special‑permit form with the town clerk on the land records. Staff offered expedited pickup and filing advice to help the applicant complete that step quickly.
The approval preserves the hotel amenity expected by transient and repeat guests and follows staff review confirming compliance with local HB‑zone rules. The commission did not attach additional conditions beyond the normal filing requirement; the permit record and the application materials are available in the planning office file for Application 26‑18.
