The Burke County Public Schools Board approved the FY27 general fund budget and accepted the district’s May financial report during its monthly meeting.
Dr. Williams presented the May financial report, saying year-to-date revenues were reported in the meeting materials at roughly $91,320,653 and representing about 76% of expected revenue for the year; she told the board an additional check dated June 3 would raise local revenues to roughly 90%, an increase the district estimated at a little over $25 million. Expenditures through May were described in the meeting as approximately $73.5 million, about 89.3% of the expected figure for the period.
The budget had been tentatively approved in May and published for two weeks; the board held the final approval vote at this meeting. A motion to adopt the FY27 general fund budget was made, seconded and approved by show of hands. Board members also moved to approve the financial report as presented by Dr. Williams; that motion passed by voice with four members recorded in favor.
Board members asked clarifying questions during the presentation about timing of receipts and the composition of year-to-date totals. No member requested amendments to the budget at the meeting. The board did not record detailed roll-call tallies in the transcript beyond the show-of-hands confirmations recorded during the session.
The board proceeded to other agenda items after the votes; the meeting later moved into an executive session for personnel matters.
