The Board of Public Works & Safety and the Utility Board met and approved a series of routine motions, including minutes and claims dockets, several street closures for summer events, and the awarding of a Police Week reconfiguration contract.
The boards approved the minutes of the June 9 meeting and a public works claims docket of $316,199.50. The Utility Board later approved a utility claims docket read in the meeting as 3,176,53962 (interpreted as $3,176,539.62). The presiding officer put each motion and members indicated assent verbally.
During department reports the board moved to award a Police Week reconfiguration contract to Gibson Lewis for a total amount of $83,152; the motion was seconded and approved. The Department of Law memo dated May 19, 2026 regarding the use of a city facility by a Drug Enforcement Administration enforcement group was acknowledged without further action.
The board also approved street closure requests subject to the board’s normal conditions: Bordet Street between Sixth Street and the railroad for a birthday party on June 20 (11 a.m.–11 p.m.); East Third Street between Downey Avenue and Brook Avenue for July 4 (10 a.m.–11 p.m.); and Spring Street between Third and Fourth Streets for a Mishawaka Catholic back-to-school picnic on Aug. 15 (3:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.).
Votes were taken by voice; the transcript records members responding “I” to show assent. No roll-call tallies by name were read into the record during the motions captured in the transcript. Many items were approved subject to standard conditions and taken under advisement where noted (for example, the Phase 11 CDBG bids were read and not awarded at this meeting).
The boards adjourned after completing the listed agenda items. The CSO24 change order and the CDBG bids (opened but not awarded) are expected to be followed up in subsequent meetings or administrative review.
