Select Board to form ad hoc deer committee, seeks volunteers before Jan. 5

The Select Board announced plans to form an ad hoc deer committee to explore management options after a recent visit from a state wildlife official.

The chair said the three board members had discussed the idea and had a preliminary list of names; Lisa volunteered to organize the committee. The board invited interested residents to contact the town by Jan. 5. The committee is expected to operate through the end of June, when the board anticipates a town meeting to decide on any measures related to the deer population.

The committee will be ad hoc and may run independently with staff support; no formal charge or budget was specified at the meeting. The board noted that anyone opposed to particular management ideas should indicate interest in joining so the committee represents varied views.
